It’s Summers!

It is officially Summers and I can clearly hear the mom screaming with agony inside your mom head. That is because I can hear one constantly screaming inside mine too. Summers can be very tricky when it comes to entertaining kids of growing age. The schools are off and you suddenly have an excessive number of mommying hours on you. “It’s so boring! Outside it’s so hot! I don’t want to eat that! It is still boring!” Is all we mostly hear day in and day out.

Now, I decided to experiment with a few activities with my little one to keep her busy. This helped me determine the summer hits and misses among children. Some activities turned out to be total bummers, however I did figure out a few which became out favorite for the season.

Let’s dig into these simple yet fun activities ( The sweltering heat has also been considered while planning these so fret not, I have you covered!)

Let’s Paint Rocks!

It is pretty easy to find rocks around the neighbourhood, go collecting rocks with your children. Once you have a handful, get your creative hats on and paint away. Paint them solid colours or printed patterns, whatever you fancy. These can then be used as paper weights or door stoppers. How artsy!

Start a Picture Diary

You can give your little one a journal, cover it in fancy paper and turn it into a picture diary. Together, you can take pictures, decide on a set number of pictures that you would take each day, print them out, past them in the picture diary and have them write a few lines about the significance of each picture. Your summer memories are stored away to look back on in the years to come.

Design T-Shirts!

Buy a couple of inexpensive white, cotton t-shirts and some fabric paints or markers and let your child’s creativity run wild on the t-shirts. Let them design their own clothing. They can also have a clothes line out to sell if they are really into it.

A Trip to the Local Beach

This classic way of celebrating summers never gets old. A trip to the beach is a MUST. Grab some cheap beach toys on your way, pack a good lunch and cooling drinks, find a good spot at the beach and you have made memories for your children. (Don’t forget the sunblock!)

Water Fight!

This is my personal favourite! Get some water guns, have your kids putvon their swimming costumes and give them some space to go crazy with the ultimate water fight. Be a part of it as there’s no better way to beat the heat during this season.

Discover Bugs!

Your child needs to explore the world they live in, let them discover the various creepy crawlies that come out during the hot season. Give them a magnifying glass to search for them and a camera to record their findings. They can then look these bugs up on the internet to find out more about them. What more? You can even encourage them to maintain a journal about their personal research!

These were a few activities that Aroosh and I tried together and and we found them so much fun! Do you have any interesting activities that you would like to share with me? I’d love to add them to the list. Tell me about your child’s favourite summer activities in the comments below!
